Why you should not buy a belt size 1
India is one of the few countries that does not allow anyone to purchase a belt with an extra belt size.
If a woman has an extra size 5-inch, she can’t buy a regular belt, the Hindustan Times reports.
The news outlet also said that in India, men are banned from buying belts larger than 4.5 inches.
But, a new rule has come into effect that has resulted in women buying a size 2 belt instead.
The Times reports that this new rule applies only to women.
“The new rule means that women can purchase a regular size 2-inch belt and men can buy a size 1-inch one,” a senior official at the department of commerce and industry told The Times.
“This rule has been introduced in an effort to prevent belt thefts,” the official added.
However, the new rule does not apply to children, as a senior government official told the newspaper that children can buy the belt.
