Which is better: a bikini or a bikini bra?
A bikini or no bra?
Well, that depends on your boobs, says a new study, and it suggests that a bikini-free life might actually be better for you.
The findings, published in the journal PLOS ONE, suggest that wearing a bikini is better for women who have a wider range of boobs than men.
Women with narrow or medium-sized boobs are more likely to have problems in everyday life, the study found.
And a bikini doesn’t help you feel confident.
The researchers from the University of Bristol and the University College London studied more than 2,000 women aged 20 to 65, including more than 5,000 from the UK.
Their findings showed that women with narrow-breasted boobs had a lower risk of getting a heart attack than those with wider-brested breasts.
This is because narrower breasts are more prone to bruising, as well as a higher risk of osteoporosis, which is the leading cause of death in women.
So, how did the scientists get to this conclusion?
The researchers asked participants to complete questionnaires about their life in the UK, their body shape and their fitness level, and how often they wore a bikini.
The data revealed that those with narrow breasts were more likely than those who have wide-breasts to be obese and to have lower incomes.
These findings are not surprising, says Dr John Coughlan, a member of the British Association for the Study of Obesity.
Women’s bodies are naturally shaped, he says, but women’s bodies also need to be flexible to cope with the pressures of everyday life.
And women who are overweight or obese have lower levels of body fat, which in turn means they are more vulnerable to heart disease and diabetes, he adds.
But he says that this does not mean that wearing the bikini makes you fat.
Dr Coughland says that a person should always wear a swimsuit when swimming, and that there are plenty of other ways to reduce the risk of heart disease.
He suggests that the number of hours in a day you spend in a bikini may not be as important as the amount of time you spend wearing the swimsuit.
“Bikini-free is a very popular thing,” Dr Coughtan says.
“If you’re in the pool, swimming, or playing with children, it’s just a great time to wear a bikini.”
The authors say that they hope that the results of their study will lead to more research on this subject, and encourage more women to consider wearing a bathing suit.
“We need more women thinking about how they’re going to wear their bikini, and what their body shapes are,” says Dr Couglan.
And he adds that the bikini may be a good choice for those who don’t have a particular problem with their boobs.
“The bikini is really important, and so it’s good that the researchers were able to find the best advice for people,” he says.
